Abstract
|

|
Short circuiting of the bowel is one of temporary measure in the face of emergency condition encountered drindg abodominal surgery.
In this paper, 4 cases of complications due to short circuiting procedure of intestine was presented.
In all cases, closed loop was formed by previous surgery. Not a single case was diagnosed preoperatively.
Cardinal symptoms pecurial to this syndrome are 1) bulging mass 2) RLQ pain after meal and 3) diarrhea. Duration after initial surgery is between 6 week to 13 years.
One patient died because of peritonitis and subsequent sepsis. Several operative measures were taken. Right hemicolectomy and reestablishment of continuity was prime goal for surgery.
Cecal perforation is prominent feature in perforated case. For the prevention of cecal perforation the early exploratory lapa-rotomy would be needed.
Short circuiting procedure of bowel is temporary measure, which should be corrected by secondary surgery for prevention of catastrophic abdominal emergency:
